MY JOURNEY AS A COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT UNIVERSITAS BRAWIJAYA
Halo everyone. For my first post, let me introduce my self. My name is Vivy Junita. You can call me Vivy. I am a computer science student at Universitas Brawijaya. I am so grateful to be the part of this university (if you want to know the reason, I’ll tell you by pc).
If you are a computer science student, of course you know a lot about coding. If you do not know what is coding, you can read or search the article about coding. for my first time to try coding, it’s hard for me because I never learn it before. But yeah, do not be sad because you must believe that learning by doing is very effective for us. You can learn from sololearn, w3school, and many more.
In my first semester, you can call me “mahasiswa kupu-kupu (kuliah-pulang-kuliah-pulang”. So, it was the reason anyone never met me in gazebo. I just come to campus when I had a class. But you must know that I’ve been a vocalist for my band named “Vivy and friends” for an informatics student event. So cool right wkwk.
For my second semester, I decided to join the one of organization in FILKOM UB and I chose Raion Community. What is that? It is the organization that focuses on develop Games and Applications. The reason why I joined that community because someone said that “To be a computer science student, you must explore a lot of things. If you just learn about the materials by your lecturer, it never enough tho”. So yeah, I tried the test and taraaaaaaaa. They chose me to be the designer staff of their community.
It is my first step to know about the product in IT. As a designer staff, I learned how to create the low fidelity prototype like wireframe and then they gave me the chance to be the project manager for the one of our community project. For my first time to be a project manager, I don’t know what must I do and what’s the kind of job description as a Project manager. I am so grateful because they always teach me anythings until now I can be a project manager for a small software house in Malang.
In my third semester, I am trying to join some competitions for Apps Innovation. When he asked me to be the part of their team, I AM SO EXCITED LIKE WAH FINALLY. SOMEBODY ASKED ME TO JOIN THE COMPETITION WKWK. It is because I always felt like I am not a great programmer. But you must remember these gengs, “all of you are a great people and you have your own unique and potential”. Fyi, For my first competition, my teams just to be the finalist of that competition. But don’t be sad gengs (Ini soal jam terbang aja kok). The important thing is you must try again and again until your dream’s come true(my dream at that time just only my photo can be posted by OA LINE BEM FILKOM UB HAHAHA). And finally, my dream’s come true!
For my fourth semester, I’ve chosen to be a head production in my community. I never thought that i’ll be in that position. To be a head production, I must make sure that all of the team in my community must have one product. I want to say thank you to Iqbal and Zizi because they’re the great staff that I’ve met. We together make sure all of our programs doing perfectly. We have some events for sharing sessions about how to present your product and how to create a good proposal for the competition. I also very excited because for this moment, many of Raion teams joined many competitions and some of them become the winner of the competitions. So happy!
Oh ya, I also joined some events for the informatics student as the master ceremony. So happy to be part of the event because I can learn about IT and get some networking. So don’t be “mahasiswa apatis” ya! wkwk
For my fifth semester, I have a chance to be the part of student exchange Universitas Brawijaya to HUST (Huazhong University of Science & Technology). The officer needs someone who ever joined the business competition and has a product and yeah how lucky I am because my team ever joined the startup competitions. It just 10 days but I got some insight into how their company growth the economy for their industry.
For my sixth semester, I joined the Developer Student Club(DSC) Universitas Brawijaya. We have a task to solve a local business problem in Malang and we chose Galeri Seni Gajayana to help them develop the application to promote their traditional event. With another core team, we also organize and host hands-on workshops and events about Google developer tools. I am so proud to be part of the DSC team in Universitas Brawijaya.
And what will I do for my seventh semester? Let’s see. From all of the things that you’ve read before, I just want to share some experiences with you. Hopefully, I can motivate you to be more active to join any events or competitions. “Practise makes perfect. Don’t worry to try new challenges if you don’t try it, you never know how difficult it is”. I think sharing session is very important to get insight from anyone who more senior. Don’t forget to make a list of your dream xoxo. If you any questions, feels free to contact me via direct message in any social media or my linkedin. Thank you.
